Harry
Hay, a courageous activist in the cause
of personal liberation, founded the first lasting gay group in North
America,
the Mattachine Society, in 1950. He also founded the Radical
Faeries,
inspired by ideas and rituals of Native American peoples.
Recalling his own experiences as a gay boy growing up in California,
Hay
