Should it really be a crime to look at child pornography?

There is now speculation that the majority of "child pornography" producers are children themselves. However, because it is legally impermissible to verify such claims, it is impossible to know.

But given the ready access of phones with cameras, laptops with cameras, iPads with cameras, iPods with cameras, digital cameras which are, of course, cameras and the ease with which still or moving images can be captured at whatever moment one's fancy is taken to do so, could it be all that surprising that children, themselves, are chief amongst those immortalizing their most revealing and erotic moments?

After all, most kids today not only have ready access to the necessary devices for creating porno but, more crucially, they are uniquely advantaged in possessing the bodies necessary to do so (unless you count "virtual" child pornography which can be created in the complete absence of actual children). 

This is one of those inconvenient yet emerging facts which makes child pornography laws impossible to square with their ostensible mandate in protecting children.

It is becoming ever more apparent that child pornography laws' real purpose is to protect distorted adults from childhood realities.
